Australian Woman Marries a Bridge in Southern France

For the last 10 years Australian artist Jodi Rose has traveled the world recording the vibrations in bridge cables with contact microphones and using them to create experimental music. You could say she has an almost intimate relationship with bridges, and recently she decided to make it official by marrying a mysterious bridge in the south of France.

Le Pont du Diable (Devil’s Bridge) is a 600-year-old stone bridge built over a steep-sided gorge in Céret‎, but for Jodi Rose it’s simply “The One”. After visiting dozens of bridges all over the world, for her Singing Bridges musical project, she decided this was the one she wanted to celebrate her love for bridges with. Although he is made of stone, the resonance of his being is very present, and I feel at peace in his strong embrace,”Jodi said. ”He makes me feel connected to the earth and draws me to rest from my endless nomadic wanderings. He is fixed, stable, rooted to the ground, while I am nomadic, transient, ever on the road. He gives me a safe haven, brings me back to ground myself, and then lets me go again to follow my own path, without trying to keep me tied down or in thrall to his needs or desires. I am devoted to him. The perfect husband… strong and silent!”

World's First Edible Cake Hotel

 

In a hotel in Soho, Central London, the world’s first ‘hotel’ made entirely out of cake opened to public yesterday.

The edible sweet dream offers guests: vanilla sponge cushions; a rug made of 1,081 meringues; windows and walls clad with 2,000 macaroons; marshmallow garlands; windowsills made from cake; a bath filled with caramel-coated popcorn; and edible books on the bedside table.

To create the edible art across the three floors and eight rooms, it took a team of 14 cake makers more than 2,000 hours of baking, 900 hours of decorating, and 600 kg of sugar.

Each of the eight tasting rooms were inspired by various regions around the world and contained unique desserts—the Mediterranean-inspired bedroom with edible furnishings, the Pirates of the Caribbean room with a giant treasure chest of edible pearls, the British-inspired Golden syrup room with a giant tower of doughnuts, the Mayan-inspired room with a fudge temple, the Mississippi-inspired ‘Mardi Gras’ room with a rainbow cake, the Barbados-inspired library with edible shells, the Guyanese-inspired room with a sea turtle cake, and the South Pacific-inspired room with a two-meter-high Easter Island statue made with chocolate mud cake.

The one-night-only edible cake hotel was to launch Britain’s largest cane sugar brand Tate & Lyle Sugars’ new ‘Taste Experience’ range of golden and brown cane sugars. “We think the cake hotel perfectly captures the excitement, inspiration and expertise behind the creation of our new range of golden and brown cane sugars,” James Whiteley, Senior Brand Manager of Tate & Lyle Sugars, said in a statement. “The Taste Experience range is about more than just adding sweetness; it’s about subtle flavor differences, texture and appearance. We hope that through the cake hotel we can showcase the versatility of golden and brown cane sugars and inspire people to get creative in the kitchen.”

Barbie Cafe in Taiwan

  

The iconic doll’s maker, Mattel, licensed Taiwanese restaurant chain Sinlaku to open the themed cafe in hopes that it will promote Barbie as a fashion brand. Iggy Yip, senior manager of Mattel’s Greater China division, commented: ”We picked Taiwan because theme restaurants are very popular and successful here. We are very confident that the Barbie Cafe can promote our brand image.” Indeed, the island is home to a number of unique restaurants and cafes, including one modeled after an A380 airplane, a cardboard restaurant, and even a popular toilet restaurant. But there is a special relationship between Taiwan and Barbie, as this was where the popular doll was originally manufactured, before production lines were moved to mainland China and other parts, to lower costs. In 2009, another Barbie restaurant was opened in Shanghai, China, but it closed down two years later, after it proved unsuccessful.

Large swimming pool in New York was transformed into an underwater bar. Underwater nightclub was created by Thinkmodo for creative advertising campaign that promotes TechnoMarine waterproof watches. Innovative scuba diving helmets that allow people to walk and breathe underwater were provided by Sea Trek.

Probably the worst theme park ever

90 minutes outside of Bangkok sits the Wang Saen Suk Hell Park, one of several "hell gardens" that can be found throughout Thailand. At this tourist destination, you can pack a picnic and ramble around the charming sculpture garden, which depicts sinners being eviscerated wholesale in the Buddhist underworld.

After all, nothing says "sunny weekend stroll" quite like statues of demons disemboweling the damned, arsonists transforming into snakes, and dogs eating a lost soul's giant testicles. Also, if you've ever used birth control, there's apparently a giant bloody vise waiting in the afterlife.
