According to CDC, vegetables are the biggest cause of food-borne illness

Good news for anyone who hates vegetables, or just wants to shut up their smug vegan friends! A new study by the Center for Disease Control (CDC) found that the majority of food-borne illnesses come from green vegetables, not meat or dairy products. Take that, vegetables!

The study found that 51% of the 9.6 million cases of food-borne illnesses were traced to contaminated plants, while all meat and poultry combined came in at a mere 22%. Leafy greens themselves cause 23% of the illnesses, which include the norovirus that causes the stomach flu.

You shouldn’t really stop eating vegetables. The untainted ones are good for you, and some are even not gross. It’s also worth noting that even though you’re more likely to get sick from a vegetable than any other food, the particularly nasty and deadly illnesses are still more commonly found in things like under-cooked chicken.

The bigger lesson here is that if you don’t want to get sick you should make sure you’re getting food from safe sources, and that you wash and cook everything thoroughly. If you do want to get to sick though, go eat a bunch of vegetables. I hear they’re terrible for you!

Vodka in a Box

Boxes have once again used their refinement-sucking power to make booze totally unclassy. This time the victim is vodka, with the box outbreak taking place somewhere in Romania. Since these are just pics, there’s no word on whether the cardboard epidemic is contained or whether it will spread into the liquor stores and nightclubs of surrounding countries.

Perfect for babies, old people and the terminally underpaid, miso ramen-flavored ice cream is apparently very real and, yes, even in Japan, very, very odd. Spotted at Namja Town, an indoor theme park in Tokyo, this instant wax and MSG-inspired concoction “kinda tastes like some weird peanut butter,” and while not necessarily bad, isn’t necessarily good either.

Barbie Cafe in Taiwan

  

The iconic doll’s maker, Mattel, licensed Taiwanese restaurant chain Sinlaku to open the themed cafe in hopes that it will promote Barbie as a fashion brand. Iggy Yip, senior manager of Mattel’s Greater China division, commented: ”We picked Taiwan because theme restaurants are very popular and successful here. We are very confident that the Barbie Cafe can promote our brand image.” Indeed, the island is home to a number of unique restaurants and cafes, including one modeled after an A380 airplane, a cardboard restaurant, and even a popular toilet restaurant. But there is a special relationship between Taiwan and Barbie, as this was where the popular doll was originally manufactured, before production lines were moved to mainland China and other parts, to lower costs. In 2009, another Barbie restaurant was opened in Shanghai, China, but it closed down two years later, after it proved unsuccessful.
